One reason I don't like sci-fi,that creepy disturbing edge to it. Which is of course THE WHOLE POINT.

I'm sure those ships have a lot of unnecessary bolts. You'd think they'd have extra fuel, in case they want to pick up a hitchhiker!

John Wyndham's second novel - The Space People as John Benton - had a similar stowaway theme though to a different end. It's a great piece of preWWII SF (1937) and has nothing to do with the moral question raised as such (though fuel consumption comes into it) but is worth a look if you've not read it.

Cheers, Drew. I haven't read it as it happens. Thanks for the tip. It sounds intriguing. I thought John Wyndham wrote very thought-provoking stuff.

Just in time, just in case like a hoarder won’t let anyone go. But manna arrives by leaving supplies for the people and lightening the load leaving the girl with her sibling. I’m sure there’s a formula here about t/d=e. I’ll think about this. Let you know after I wake up and have my coffee.

Thanks, Richard. Have you seen the flowchart showing how to write a science fiction novel? It reminds me of your algorithm! https://www.researchgate.net/figure/How-to-Write-a-Science-Fiction-Novel-Wilson-1971_fig1_232831648
