This seems like a great idea to get kids interested in their community. They would be learning about a whole range of subjects. And they may just discover their love of writing.

Fascinating, as always.

In a similar-yet-different vein, I've always found provincial local newspapers absolutely fascinating. In a modern world where I have access to all the big-world stuff via an app, it is so delightful to dip in to a village's community blog, or printed local newspaper, and work out where the real stuff is happening. On a local level priorities are very different - and yes, it is all about the church cake sale, the state of the bus stop, and conjectured thoughts about why all of those brand-new cats'-eyes in the road are already rusting.... I love this kind of stuff. And to turn it all into a whole menu of education projects is utter genius!

"Genius". That's a word I could get used to hearing. Thank you. I'm glad you appreciate my genius and general brilliance, and modesty. Seriously though, I agree about local news. Sometimes it makes me laugh though, like the time the placard in a village read "school test results out today"! Chortle

It’s a lovely idea to make it more local. At one school I worked at the students took their senior service projects seriously. They did amazing stuff with the community and wrote about it on our blog. Works very well!

Interesting concept here but I have a question, wouldn’t this just be like a student newspaper? My high school had one with most of the features you described

Thanks, Mike, yes it could be the same. My intention really was to focus on the hyperlocal aspect. In my experience of student newspapers they were all about what happened in the school, not beyond. But as I say, that was just my own experience.Cheers
