I chuckled out loud with the quote from Henry VI part 1: "Unbidden guests are often welcomest when they are gone." Some of the men in my extended family seem to be from Henry's camp, and most of the women are gifted hostesses who can accommodate any visitor, invited or unexpected. Great to read the Cliff Notes version of your year. Merry Christmas to you!

Chucked or chuckled? In Britain 'chucked' means threw up. I agree about men and women, certainly in my experience. Cliff Notes version: 😂 And to you as well, Mary!

Chuckled!!! not chucked! My fingers have not been cooperative in typing in the last weeks, perhaps my age is playing tricks on me. That's so funny that chucked means throw up. So funny! 🤣

Terry, what a terrific start to the week - I'm viewing it, in fact, as a start to Christmas, because it contains enough substance to get me through to the big day and beyond. A real treat of a post, which I'm enjoying no end.

I loved your one-sentence review of the year!

And as for this line: "The big milestone for me, and possibly a millstone for her, is having corresponded with Rebecca Holden for a whole year" - let me just say that for me our correspondence has been nothing like a millstone! I deeply value our exchange of letters, and I'm looking forward to continuing what has been both a pleasure and a privilege in AD2024.

Thanks, Rebecca, the feeling is mutual, by which I mean I also think that corresponding with me has been a pleasure and a privilege. JOKING!!😂

Love the book tree. And Sir Winton (who was obviously a young man when he did his good deeds!). And Joe Cocker. Thanks so much. Enjoy the rest of your year and beyond. Hugs dear Terry. All the best.

I think he was 29. He was knighted and nominated for the Nobel, and he lived to 106. At his memorial service Esther Rantzen asked anyone who owed their life to him to stand up, and everyone did

Someone should sell bookshelves made in a spiral so folks can make their own book xmas tree. What a novel idea. Hehe.

'novel': very good😀

Like no one has ever used that pun before.

The train between us and St Pancras takes 7 minutes, that tree almost seems worth the trip in itself, just to go, have a look and come back home!
