Love this kind of stuff, definitely my kind of humour and style.

I'm feeling a bit wembley today, hehe.

The placement of your "Subscribe" box halfway through tickled me because it comes right after "...a sign there that read:"

At first, I thought the sign literally read "Eclecticism: Reflections on literature, writing and life..." and then I realised that, no, the actual quote was just below it.

LOLO Actually, that caught me off-guard too, and I'm the one who wrote it! 🤣

'Thirsk'! 😂

The 'adjust your dress' line reminds me of the metal sign screwed to the wall behind the loo in the bathroom in the house where Jim's Grandad - a lifelong railwayman - lived.

It read: 'Do not use while the train is standing at a station'. 🤣

Don't they still have those notices on trains? I remember them too! 😂

Yes, I think they do! This was a really old one, though - an antique!

There is a Penguin anthology called "The Jenguin Pennings." He used to write in Lilliput magazine - amazing what turned up there. Unfortunately the Australian children's author of the same name causede confusion when looking for books by the original Jennings.

Thanks, Paul. I've thought about buying that (used copy only) but I can't see what it contains. There's a chance I've already got many of the articles in Golden Oddlies. Do you have that book? I hadn't heard of Lilliput . My knowledge of Jennings comes from his columns in The Observer. Agree about the children's author of the same name!

English trains are very colourful! And Paul Jennings is an inspirational fellow. Thanks Terry. All the best.

Adjust your dress! Ha ha ha. Zip up those trousers, for God's sake, you hooligans! In my travels, I too have photographed many funny signs. One of my favorites was in a bakery window in the village of Bridge of Allen, Scotland. Today's special: BIG BUTTS! I thought to myself, a likely spot for it. I came to find, of course that butts was a short name for large buttered bread rolls, and had nothing to do with derrieres... lost in translation. Thanks for bringing back this post Terryl I missed it first time around.
