Solid concrete example were being armed with information helped to combat misinformation. However in life can be much more difficult to have the data facts because simply not available to you. Yet the example used is instructive at least in making the attempt to collect valid, and that's were it gets tricky information to use to support your argument.

Thanks Linda. I agree about not always having the data, which can be frustrating. In that job it was worth expending some effort to get it, definitely

I’m ex-IT. I often helped out on the Help Desk as I love the feeling of accomplishment when a two-minute visit can have such positive outcomes. (I still do home visits as a retiree.) So many IT staff forget to interact with the ‘client’ though. Sometimes they popped in and fixed the problem but forgot to let someone know!!!! So we had to remind them constantly to at LEAST leave a note with the word FIXED on it so that people knew they’d been there! Having a check-off form is a brilliant idea but it really does slow things down. The interactions are essential though.

Another good read. Thanks Terry.

Yes, sometimes people are their own worst enemy. The form I decided had two questions and a space for a signature. It did slow down the technician's leaving a school, but worth it ultimately

I love the way you devised a back up that included THEIR signatures. Brilliant! It reminds me of a high school teacher I know who requires her students to either turn in their homework OR turn in a SIGNED post-it note saying : "I did not turn in my homework on ( May 1 ) " She attaches the post-its to the student's record. When irate parents come storming in, outraged that their child is being failed in her class, she has evidence with dates and signatures from the student admitting to lack of work. Smart backup, if you ask me!

My sister does something similar! She only teaches infants and primary school kids but some of the parents get SO irate. Keeping evidence is so essential.

Absolutely. It's just a shame that we have to resort to such tactics as a defence mechanism.

Such a thought-provoking post, Terry. I'm an extremely literal person, and not only do I need to be fully briefed about anything and everything that involves me, I need to know that I've understood the situation correctly - otherwise how on earth do I know what I'm dealing with? Communication is key. When what passes for 'communication' is actually just a load of rubbish it doesn't help anyone's cause!

Food for thought indeed. What's that phrase again? Oh yes: 'cut the cr**'. 😁

Thanks, Rebecca. I always tried to fully brief everyone because you can never be sure how the other person is interpreting it all.

Thanks Mitch. You're right. Facts are more effective than emotion, or appeals to reason alone
