Thank you, Terry, for Auntie Pol, Uncle Joe, and your appreciation for a country that has weathered much. I don't understand our current situation either, though I've tried endlessly to make it make sense. I know we're not entirely alone in experiencing this shift in political ideologies, and that is both comforting and disturbing. Here's hoping we will rise above this, too.
For the last seven days I've had my head in my hands reading about everything Trump is doing, undoing the work of others, catastrophically ruining any hope.
I feel for everyone in the USA. It's going to be a rough four years, and probably far beyond.
Personally, I have very fond memories of visiting when I was in my early teens. Went there twice with my parents and my brother. I love the west coast and the national parks. America has some absolutely gorgeous pieces of nature and wonderful people. I would love to go back one day, provided the place still exists.
Thank you for this Terry. As an American I am always happy to hear a kind and considered opinion on our sometimes messy democracy from my brethren across the pond.
Thanks very much, Jim. I'm glad you liked it. "sometimes messy democracy": a good description. But we overlook our friends' shortcomings, so why not a country's (with exceptions!)
Thanks, Sharron. I'd have to be insane to think all Americans are the same. Just out of interest, why do you think you would like Aunty Pole? "Long time since smitten": 😂
Thank you, Terry, for not painting all Americans with the same brush. At least 60% of the people are still sane (deluded?) across here. I loved your old Kodachrome photos so much. I can tell I would have really liked Aunt Pole. And had I met you at age 30 I would have been instantly smitten. ( I am so old, I can't even remember the last time someone smote me ...)
Corrected: I've been to the States five times, not four.

I didn't visit any National Parks, but I did love the natural aspects as well as the people.
Drop by anytime!
Thanks, Cary 😀 Where are you?
Just outside Charlotte, North Carolina. It’s very green, and the locals do a wonderful job of pretending to be friendly.
🤣🤣
A delightful read, Terry - your love for America really shows.
'Aunty Pol' - brilliant! Jim had an 'Uncle Wart' - whose name, I gather, was actually 'Walt'. 🤣
Thank you, Rebecca! Uncle Wart: 🤣

Thank you for your appreciation. I love my country and love when “outsiders” appreciate it as well. I don’t understand adult-tantrums either.
🙂 it was a privilege to write about it.
And the photos are fantastic! Uncle Joe from the Bronx!
🤣 he looks like he liked his food, doesn't he!
😂😂
