This is absolutely terrific, Terry! I have both sent and received letters like this one - I laughed and laughed!
Thank you for your description of 'Ult.' - I'd never heard of that before. I've heard the term 'inst.' or 'instant' - as in 'I refer to your letter of the 27th inst.' - which I gather must relate to a date of the current month, maybe. I'm not sure, actually. ๐ค
Well, I haven't sent one recently... although there's a bloke I scarcely know who persists in sending me unsolicited letters, and chances are high that he will be receiving one in return to seek his assurance that such behaviour will not be repeated. On reflection, though, I feel it would be churlish to discourage him, because it might of course be the case that such an unfortunate state of affairs has simply been an aberration occasioned by his dilapidated state.

I learn much when I read your stuff! Tonight's favorite (as my brain is still foggy from traveling and bustling and way too much talking) is learning about "Ult. is short for Ultimo, which means the previous month". I didn't know that. Neat. ๐
Well, I was thinking of doing it in the form of a Google Form. But there are 52 styles so far, so I think it would either be case of checking the stats to see which ones garnered the most views, shares and comments, or asking people to set up a chortleometer and say this ones made them laugh the most. Life's too short for the first option quite frankly.
Three? I always though there were two. But then I don't drink or gamble. I live a life that is as pure as the driven snow. People start to feel purified in my presence. It's a gift.
we have had complaints....I should like your assurance....a precautionary measure....I have also been informed....I was dismayed to learn....I do hope....I trust that you....Thank you for you co-operation and understanding, and I look forward to hearing from you. Absolutely spot on! So clever. Sounds exactly like missives I receive from my Homeowners Association...
I love your writing style Mr Tree Freedman I have a short hand in writing. If my knowledge become strong, I will write guess alike you simple, easy and daily memories. I should really appreciate you for sharing your writing amd the knowledge of it to me. Thank you so much๐๐น
๐ Thanks, Mitch. I love his cartoons, but I just realised I don't think I've ever read any of his stories. I have to nrectify that. I see Amazon has the Penguin Carnival of James Thurber. Do you have a particular fave?

I aim to please, Mary! Thanks for kind comments.
Great to see how much changes when you adopt a different mood ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป
It's pretty astonishing really, isn't it?
Fantastic rendition. Would never have thought to tell a story this way, but it works and really captures a specific POV. Love it!
Thanks very much Jacquie๐
Nailed it, Terry. Spot on. This is a new fave. (I have a long list of favourites ๐)
Thank you Sir ๐. Maybe I should run a poll to find out what the overall favourite is so far
Hmmm, I'd struggle to answer that poll - unless Substack reengineer their programming to allow for multiple selections! ๐คฃ

52 styles so far? Wow, that's an entire pack of cards!!! Just the three Jokers to go, then...!

Love it, love it, love it. Well done Lord Terry.
Chortle. Thanks Beth ๐
Very entertaining, Terry, liking the different perspective we are granted here, very concerned about your "dilapidated state"...
Hahaha Thanks, Mya. I am on the mend ๐

My library has a two-volume set so I've reserved them. Picking it up on Monday!๐
Thanks Mitch
