This is so great, Terry! It's such a clever deconstruction of a piece of text for my brain to reconstruct - I love it! The sparseness is clever - you've been really selective in what you've chosen to index, which has made me get my thinking gears grinding.
(but in all seriousness, very good Terry. Though I too am scratching my head. It is late here, though that is a poor excuse. Some letters are missing? The m comes up in the wrong place a few times?)
Thanks for pointing out the errant 'm's. I hadn't noticed that the formatting went awry when I copied and pasted from Word. Thus, for example, concussion should have been concussion, mild. But the comma got lost and the 'mild' ended up on a new line.
I’m new here and this is all intriguing! What’s missing? Ah, my organising brain just can’t help itself - the things that you do - reading, prevaricating and being petrified... I have no idea if this is the sort of thing you mean, but at least you’ve got me reading old stories / articles / blogs / whatever they’re called on Substack, and then thinking and commenting!!
(I’m here because someone else I’m sampling writes you a letter each fortnight, so I subscribed so as not to miss your response!). (I have no idea how working people have time for this app. I’m retired and I have trouble keeping up with the few writers I’ve subscribed to!)
Anyway, thanks for the mental stimulation. Best wishes from Australia.
Oh blimey. Okay, I've just read the very first bit of your follow-up post, and realised that I hadn't done the exercise of finding what's missing in THIS one. So I haven't READ 'Start the Week' yet, because I'm trying to wrap my head around this little conundrum.
Is it little, though? No, it's MASSIVE.
Awake?
Semi-conscious?
I mean, I KNOW that I'M clearly not the former, and am probably the latter, because I GIVE UP.

Right, heading back to 'Start the Week' to find out what the answer is. You can go off people, you know....... 🙄
This is an interesting twist. I would not have thought of an index. Great job!
Thanks, Matthew. The one next Saturday is also challenging, but in a different way :-)
Really enjoying your experiments!
With a head cold and a fever, I'm afraid this is above my pay grade today. Look forward to giving it a go when the fog clears! :D
Sorry to hear that, Kerri. Wish you better 😕
Good for free writes, too, to get started when stuck.
Great idea, Mary, thanks. (Though I never get stuck: I have writer's flood rather than writer's block! 😂
I love a good index! And an index of a short story! Fantastic!
We aim to please! Thanks, Jillian :-)
Really great! Clever.
Cheers, Joel :-)

Bravo!
Thanks, Rebecca!

I will reveal the missing word tomorrow. -)
Aha, that makes sense. Pesky formatting. I shall take another look with fresher eyes soon.
Thanks for drawing my attention to it. I'm not bad at writing, but cr*p at proofreading!

Hello from Australia too, Beth.
And as Terry says, everyone has trouble keeping up, but that's part of the fun of Substack.
all will be revealed in my post tomorrow (if I remember!) And if it's any consolation, EVERYBODY has trouble keeping up!
