Wow, Terry - I'm really behind on my Substack reading and gosh, you'd tipped me off about your newnewnewnewsletter and I haven't yet looked because, well, stuff, but heck, I'm hot-footing it that way WRITE now.......
Kudos on your clear out. I confess I switched most of my subscriptions to the app not email and it feels tidier and less pressing. But also more time-based and easier to ignore. A week can go by without my feeling guilty that I hadn’t read a post yet. But it’s better than unsubscribing since I always want to go back in - or intend to sometime. Sadly, save for later is like leftovers that go from fridge to freezer before landing in the compost. Sigh. This is what we contend with. **shakes fist at sky **
-) Thanks, Carol. Re: compost, my wife often say, "Should we throw this on the compost now, or store in the fridge fo a couple of days and THEN throw it in the compost!" I agree about the app, but I still find the number of newsletters I subscribe to overwheming. I'm going to unsub from a few more soon. Thanks for commenting.
Terry, you are incorrigible! Another pub launch? Why am I surprised but not surprised? 😄 Congratulations! I was on a hiatus myself, being way too occupied with my son’s school and post-school stuff. Hoping to be a regular here again and look forward to reading your posts!
You could say I left it! I barely had time to get on it or write for it:) Sahil is doing well—in 10th grade now. 3 more years to college. I hope you are not troubling Elaine and the cats!;)
Good god 523? I am subscribed to 500 less - wow I must be pathetic. I am still subscribed to yours and I read it when I have time. I actually try to read all the ones I am subscribed to. But I don't have much time to cavort around Substack till I get my life together. Congrats on #2. Falling numbers - I don't think I gained at an appropriate pace then.
Wow Terry you got a lot of subscriptions! Did they subscribe back? I typically subscribe to those who subscribe to me. I wanna help, but sometimes it makes little sense, i.e., they have a very narrow field of interest I can't share.
In addition I try to comment on their 'stack. Again, I want to help. Also it's win win, I get subscribers this way. I'm thinking people read and say, who is this nut? : )
It’s hard, especially with time constraints, to reply as quick as one would like. Life interferes.
Also, whilst one can really appreciate people subscribing to one’s account, I don’t think it's fair to expect a subscription by return. I’m just happy if anyone reads, I expect nothing more. It makes it easier and less guilt ridden.
The other issue with Substack is the fact that it's geared to northern hemisphere timeframes and analytics. I live in the southern hemisphere and so that puts the kybosh on me straight away.
"Keep on truckin'" is one of the adages I live by! You're right about its not being fair to expect reciprocation, but I do feel a bit guilty when I don't, and a bit miffed if someone else doesn't! Yes, the times are geared to the northern hemisphere, which is not fair. I remember thinking that when Substack had Office Hours: I didn't see how anyone from the antipodes could join in.
Terry, I'd like to enter a formal request for you not to dump me although I'll fully understand if you do. I'm tired of all my new subscribers who lately seem to have names like Trixie and LuLu, while wearing next to nothing in their profile photos. Hope you're doing well young man. - Jim
Fear not, Sir. I have no intention of dumping you, as you put it. So, these new subscribers of yours, they sound like some of my new followers! All the best, Jim.

I think "nuts" is the word you're looking for! Thanks. I had assumed you'd left Substack. Hope your son is doing well.

Well done, Sahil. Lol re Elaine and the cats!

23 is slightly more manageable! 😂 I try to read all as well, but with such a large number of subscribers they all get swamped.
Hi Terry, glad you're okay! Congrats on the second substack too.
Thanks, Susan 😀

I try to do the same, but much of the time I've found that people don't reciprocate or respond to comments.

Nevertheless, Terry, we shall truck on, won’t we?

Yes. What can ya do? Maybe they're ascared of us : )
😁

Haha, yes, I’ll take a paid subscriber over cleavage any day.
😄
Thank you so much for the mention, Terry! It’s all about the Holdens! 😂
My pleasure, Claire. Lol.
