Greetings!

As you may know, I’ve been experimenting with different kinds of writing. I’ve written a very simple (true) story, and mangled transformed it in various ways. There is more information, and an index of all the published versions so far, here: Experiments in Style Index.

I often write one of these ‘Experiments in style extra’ posts to explain how a version came about, or how I did it, or conduct an exploration behind the scenes. That’s for paid subscribers.

Just because there are times when a new ‘experiment in style’ doesn’t appear, doesn’t mean the legendary Freedman word factory isn’t working at full pelt on one. Indeed, I have at least three that are partially written, and one that is fully written, but which I’m unhappy with.

I thought you may find it interesting to have a look at some of these versions at an early stage. I should be interested in what you think, and whether you think the version being looked at is worth pursuing.

In the half-finished version which follows, I’ve gone overboard in terms of details, specifically relating to where things are in relation to myself. I’m not sure whether this is interesting, more interesting than the original story, boring, humorous, or a deeply philosophical reflection on one’s sense of place. I’ll be interested to hear what you think.
