Greetings!

As you may know, I’ve been experimenting with different kinds of writing. I’ve written a very simple (true) story, and mangled transformed it in various ways. There is more information, and an index of all the published versions so far, here: Experiments in Style Index.

I often write one of these ‘Experiments in style extra’ posts to explain how a version came about, or how I did it, or conduct an exploration behind the scenes. That’s for paid subscribers.

Just because there are times when a new ‘experiment in style’ doesn’t appear, doesn’t mean the legendary Freedman word factory isn’t working at full pelt on one. Indeed, I have at least three that are partially written, and one that is fully written, but which I’m unhappy with.

I thought you may find it interesting to have a look at some of these versions at an early stage. I should be interested in what you think, and whether you think the version being looked at is worth pursuing. Today’s version is a parody of Star Trek.

Please note: this is not an actual Star Trek story but a parody of Star Trek The Next Generation, written in accordance with the UK’s rules on parody or pastiche, and Fair Dealing, and the US’s Fair Use.

Captain Slog stardate 241.0367. Several crew members have reported bumping into walls that shouldn’t have been there. I have called a meeting of senior officers to determine the cause, and an appropriate course of action.
