Today’s 5 minute tip includes details of bulk renaming utilities for both Windows and Mac computers.
Also, if you write lots of articles, and especially if you have guest writers, you might be interested in my Articles Planner. I’ve published it before, but I’ve changed the link for the Google Sheets version. There’s also a Microsoft Excel version.
The spreadsheet helps you keep track of articles that have been planned, ones that have been published, and how many articles by each contributor have been published. If you submit pitches to other publications it has a section to help you keep track of your article ideas and pitches.
Why bulk renaming utilities?
If you want to rename several files in the same way, a bulk renaming utility is the best option. For example, let’s suppose I wrote a lot of articles about different aspects of writing. It might be useful for me to rename each file so that the word “writing” appears at the start of the name. That way, when I sort the list of my files alphabetically, all the ones about writing will be together.
