This is a phone conversation I had with a cab company. We’d reached the stage where I’d established where I was and my required destination.
Me: How much will this journey cost?
Cab company: Would you like to pay £5 or £11?
Me: What's the difference?
Cab company: £6
Me: Thank you, yes, I worked that out. What's the difference in service?
Cab co: None.
Me: None?
Cab Co: That's correct, sir.
Me: Then I'll opt for the £5 charge please.
Cab co: Right you are, sir.
As my American friends would say, go figure.
Maybe she was asking if you wanted to voluntarily pay for a kinda ‘dead miles’ (the mileage done by the taxi driver to drive to a booking without passengers in the taxi).
Maybe it was just a quick math lesson.
