Hi, Rebecca. Not at all. When I was teaching I gave each pupil verbal feedback on their work, even though there were thirty in the class. Not for every single piece of work, but what I did was every lesson I would see four or five pupils to discuss their work and progress and any issues they might have, so that each half term I would have seen all of them. It was a lot better than meaningless numbers.
Absolutely - but in terms of the numbers being meaningless, wouldn't it be lovely for the words to have meaning that counts on the spreadsheets of the powers that be? Great post - really made me think. As indeed they all do!
Well, in my experience the powers-that-be just want numbers. I think I'll write an article about that -- some of my interactions were hilarious. For my own purposes, I kept a verbal record.
Such a minefield, Terry!
I like verbal feedback - but that’s impossible, I know. #Iamnotanumber

Sorry - I need an edit: '...on the spreadsheets of the powers that be that shouldn't be?' 😉

Overworked teachers- is there any other kind? Good stuff as always Terry.
Thanks very much, Thomas
