I thought I’d provide links to a few articles I wrote soon after starting this Substack newsletter. Back then I had only 4 subscribers: my wife and our three cats. And one of the cats has unsubscribed. Since then my readership has expanded considerably (thanks, mum and dad), so for the entertainment, if not quite edification, of new readers here are three articles I enjoyed writing, and that hopefully you will enjoy reading.
My sporting life
My idea of sport is watching it on TV (under duress). I was useless at it in school, and have no desire to improve now. Here’s an article about how I managed to escape from the demands the school put on me:
A very boring job
A few years ago I went on a writing course. I’ve been writing for years, but I think there’s always more you can learn. One of the prompts available was to write about the most boring job you’ve ever had. So I wrote the following. which raised a chortle or two:

My only subscribers at first consisted of my husband and sisters. Obligatory family support, but I gladly celebrated three humans actually reading my work (or so they claimed)
