Here’s a story I wrote in 1986, which has never before seen the light of day. It concerns the Glastonbury legend, which has it that Jesus visited England, perhaps during the “missing years”. The legend is referenced in Jerusalem, by William Blake:
And did those feet in ancient time
walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
on England's pleasant pastures seen?
I love to sit for a while in the chapel in the grounds of the Glastonbury Abbey ruins. It is one of the most peaceful places I’ve ever encountered. The silence is tangible, and you can feel your tension just draining away.
I came across this story while I was exploring the Freedman archives. It was in the form of a typescript. I scanned it into the form of a pdf. I then attempted to extract the text from the pdf, but I think the scan wasn’t of a high enough quality to make that a feasible proposition. For that reason, it’s here as a downloadable pdf, which is perfectly readable.
The Glastonbury legend may or may not be true, but the attached story was founded on research into various myths and phenomena such as ley lines.
